Names of the SCA Packaging Design Challenge 03 finalists revealed

A shortlist of 11 entries have been selected by the Tempo and LEGO jury members as finalists of the SCA Packaging Design Challenge 03

Jury meetings took place in Brussels on December 14 for the Tempo category and in Billund (Denmark) on December 21 for the LEGO category. Jury members of LEGO and Tempo went through over 230 entries from candidates from all over the world and rated the concepts based on the criteria of consumer experience, level of novelty, sustainability and feasibility.

There was a tie on the rating scores on two entries for the Tempo category and the jury felt it would be unfair to leave one of them out, so we ended up with 11 finalists in total; 6 for Tempo and 5 for LEGO, with 11 different nationalities coming from Europe, Asia, South & North America:

During February 2012, the Tempo finalists will participate in a workshop at the SCA Packaging Design Centre in Gent (Belgium) and will have the chance to visit the Tempo manufacturing plant in Neuss-am-Rhein (Germany). The LEGO finalists will have their workshop at the SCA Packaging Design Centre in Vejle (Denmark) and will tour the LEGO plant in nearby Billund (Denmark).

Following the workshops, candidates will have one month to fine-tune their concepts for the big finale. For this each of the finalists will have the support of an SCA Packaging designer, who will coach them and provide professional advice.

The final and award ceremony of the SCA Packaging Design Challenge 03 will take place on March 28, 2012 in Brussels.

Thank you to all participants from all over the world for making this 3rd edition of the SCA Design Challenge a success! We received a total of 231 projects, 86 for Tempo and 145 for LEGO, coming from 42 different nationalities.

During the past two weeks we’ve had both the Tempo jury meeting in Brussels (Belgium) and the LEGO jury meeting in Billund (Denmark). The jury shortlisted 15 projects for Tempo and 13 for LEGO that were then rated on the evaluation criteria (consumer experience, novelty factor, sustainability and feasibility).

We have personally contacted the highest scoring projects from both categories to inform them that they made it into the shortlists, five of these from each category will make it to the final and will be invited to the workshops in February. The names of the five finalists for Tempo & LEGO will be announced on 17th of January 2012.

We would like to thank everyone once more and we hope that you enjoyed participating in the 3rd edition of the SCA Design Challenge. All participants will receive a certificate of participation during January 2012.
