Frequently Asked Question

What’s in it for me?

Work with professionals from the industry and pitch your work to well-established designers from the industry.

First price will win €3000 in cash & an internship at the SCA Packaging Innovation Centre in Brussels or Design Centres across Europe. For 2nd to 5th place we reserve € 1000 each. Show your talents, get on the shortlist & present your design to our major global brands

How do I submit my work?

You need to submit your work by using the PowerPoint template provided. Mail your presentation to design.challenge@sca.com latest by 5th of December 2011.

What is the primary and secondary packaging?

The primary packaging is the first level of packaging that packs and protects the product. Example: for a soft drink, the can or bottle is the primary packaging.

The secondary packaging is the second level of packaging to display and transport a product through the supply chain. The secondary packaging could be a shelf ready packaging, the box on the shelves, or also purely a transport packaging that transports a product directly to end user or business to business.

What is a total packaging concept?

Come up with an improved total packaging concept that fulfils a number of roles; protection of the goods it carries, maximization of transport efficiencies, appeal to consumers in store, fit with retailer shelves and provide consumer information about storage and use. It must meet legal requirements for labelling and it should display the goods to consumers in good condition and with evidence that the goods have not been tampered with.

Can I participate in a group or with my school?

Yes, we also encourage groups and design schools to participate.

You can register via the registration form and send your group details on your project submission form. You will then need to fill in the names of your group members. You will need to appoint one representative that will be our main point of contact for the competition.

What happens if I register but I don’t receive anything?

First check your SPAM folder. If you haven’t received anything, please send an email to design.challenge@sca.com.

Don’t forget to mention your full name & the project name in your email so we can look up your registration.
